Transcending Symbolic Consciousness

Transcending Symbolic Consciousness

Symbolic consciousness has seized control of the evolutionary dynamics of life on Earth and deeply impoverished the planetary ecology. – Peter Reason

Imagine a world without language, images or the written word. Imagine an organism with awareness of self, a sense of community and yet no way to share their world with another. An intense inner world fueled by instinct and survival and yet a consciousness that understands our connection. It was out of this that the world as we know it evolved today.

We have always been connected. The same ingredients that gave birth to the cosmos are the same things that we are made of; we are of the stars. If we were to look at the history of the universe in an hour time frame, humans have only existed in the last minute on earth. Yet we have changed the earth in amazing ways. Recently, I watched an eye-opening documentary that helped me to understand how our earth evolved into this increasingly complex world that we now live in. In Journey of the Universe, they answer the question, how did this happen? What was the catalyst that propelled civilization into exponential growth and where do we go from here?

Evolution of the Cosmos

Fourteen billion years ago the universe exploded with life in what some scientists call “Goldilocks Conditions”, any hotter or cooler, and the expansion would have quickly imploded or collapsed back into nothing. In these perfect conditions, a universe was born. Around 4 and a half billion years ago the earth and our sun were formed. Again, our planet seemingly divinely guided in its creation, as the perfect conditions conspired that resulted in our creation. The earth at this point was governed by what Dr. Frank Heile would describe as a primary consciousness. This is the consciousness that permeates the natural world. If we think of it like a computer, it would be a parallel processor giving rise to the self-organizing dynamic that scientist now believe is the natural order of things. This primary consciousness has a present moment awareness, that created patterns and intelligence that coded all of life. Yet, it wasn’t until the time of man that things began to grow in ever more complex ways as we burst beyond this primary consciousness into symbolic consciousness. While there is much debate about what triggered this, there is one very interesting theory posited by Brian Thomas Swimme in Journey of the Universe

The Birth of the Inner Child

Something happened within the mammals, the divine feminine energies arose and mammals began to nurture and nourish their young. We gave rise to the inner child. As humans, we let our children be creative and playful for many years beyond all other creatures. Some believe that this prolongation of childhood is what led to our exponential complexity. Maybe it was the nurturing of our ‘right brains’ that brought our species to new heights and eventually led to the development of what neuroscientist call our intuitive brain. But there is more to this story. While the prolongation of childhood may have allowed for increased complexity, it was also our development of language and writing that changed the game for our species and what we were able to accomplish.

The Rise of Symbolic Consciousness

Symbolic consciousness is a world created from symbols that evolved into language and writing that allowed humans to express their inner world with the outer world. Just as today, all words are symbols for something much deeper. Our self-awareness allowed us to create a symbolic world in order to pass on information, ideas, and mythology. As we began to create the world around us to symbolize what has existed within, we began our journey of symbolic consciousness.

For billions of years, the earth was guided by the principals of self-organization or this primary consciousness. Now instead of just passing along our genetic coding and patterns to subsequent generations, we were now able to pass along our experience. Allowing us to teach each other complex instructions on how to make things by stringing together long-chain symbols. As Dr. Frank Heile and some explained, we created a hierarchal structure and/or chains of these symbols, which allowed us to live and thrive in groups. Giving us the opportunity to make tools and pass on information about hunting and the world we lived in without that information being lost from one generation to the next. We began creating energetic exchanges as we moved more and more of our experience in the external world. We identified with ourselves as “I” and “Me”, and in order to understand ourselves, we became something relative to something else. Creating an identity that was a measure of another’s perception, again a reflection of the outer world and less of an understanding of our essence.

Symbolic Consciousness in the Modern Age

In addition to increasing complexity in ideas and thought, this created a positive feedback loop or an amplifying loop. We would see something, identify and integrate it into our culture and then create more of it. With this, our minds focused on rehashing the past and the inventing of the future. And so began our love affair with linear and logical thinking, building one idea on the foundation of the last. As Brian Thomas Swimme would explain it, our collective consciousness was giving birth to more symbols and those would, in turn, magnify our collective consciousness.

How this developed over time is we began to value the external, ‘objective reality’ over our inner knowing. Science then began to dictate our truth; everything we could quantify, and rationalize became our dogma. The qualities of the divine feminine and inner child were diminished. Marketing and commercialization preyed on this externalized reality, creating attachments and suffering. It also created another glaring problem; we used these measures to dominate nature instead of move with it. No longer were we part of the natural world, our aim was to control it for our own benefit.

Coming Full Circle

Since we understand now how symbolic consciousness has propelled us forward exponentially in every way, what is it going to take to come full circle? If symbolic consciousness is the amplification of the external world, it is time to bring it back to our center. What is going on within each one of us when we cultivate an inner awareness? There are so many things that take us out of this space, especially the technology of our smartphones and advent of social media; we need to make a concerted effort to move back within. Dr. Jeffery Martin would call this non-symbolic consciousness.   It is a non-dual awareness, where one consciously embraces solitude, stillness, and quiet contemplation. It is a state that is ripe for mystical experiences birthed from the cultivation of mindfulness.

We have been living life looking through a keyhole, piecing the puzzle together, asking the how questions. It is now time to embrace the why? It is time to rise to a new level of self-awareness. One that can expand large enough to see where we have been, what we have created, and reflect on our need to control and dominate. As Brian Thomas Swimme expressed about the self-organizing nature of the universe. “Life learns”. It is time for us to live again in harmony with our world, as sustainability is harmony in action.

5 Suggestions to Cultivate Non-Symbolic Consciousness

  1. Set boundaries around your use of technology
  2. Meditate
  3. Ecstatic Dance
  4. Be in nature
  5. Spend part of your day in silence

Spirit Whispers from Echo Rock

Spirit Whispers from Echo Rock

The Sound of my own wheels making me Crazy

In my travels across North America I’ve experienced a great deal of solitude. I’ve driven countless hours, gazing upon the Natural wonders and ever changing landscapes. The endless pursuit of a beautiful, yet elusive horizons. My internal dialogue as haunting as the sound of my own wheels making me crazy. It was on an open stretch of road in Wisconsin that I was overcome with loneliness, my spirit longing for companionship. There was an aching within my heart, as my vision began to blur with tears.

It became difficult to see the road, so I pulled over and relinquished to this rise of emotions. The sense of despair so pervasive, I found myself turning to prayer. My prayer was to our world, to Spirit and to the heavens beyond. My wish was for relief of this intense sadness and to not feel so alone. The unrelenting sense of loneliness had overwhelmed and demoralized me. I wish for a sign, some kind of message from Spirit. After some time had passed, I began to regain my composure, taking solace in the beautiful scenery before me. High above the land rose sandstone formations that seemed to touch the sky. These formations appeared as ancient guardians of a valley that stretched to the horizon.

A sign drew my attention as though it were a beacon, “Mirror Lake”

My Campsite at Mirror Lake, Wisconsin I’d grown weary of driving, and of this despair. Rest is on my mind as I sought a place of respite for the night. Just ahead, a sign drew my attention as though it were a beacon, “Mirror Lake” it read. Such a profound name I thought, a synchronicity that I must not ignore. So I charted my course toward the campgrounds at Mirror Lake Park, there I will rest for the evening. Upon arriving I stopped at the rangers station, and secured my site. As I drove towards the campsite, I became immersed in a beautiful forest. I retreated into nature which gives me a great sense of peace. It was as though I traveled back in time, to when life was much more simple.

Once settled in, I shared my location on social media to let friends and family know of my day’s progress. A message came from my sister with a link to a hiking trail leading to a place called Echo Rock. What a mysterious name I thought, maybe this is exactly where I’m supposed to be? That evening I made a campfire, and held a small ceremony around it. The forest became very active under a star filled sky. In the nearby woods I heard cracking and stepping sounds that were approaching my site. I became a bit spooked, and retreated to the relative safety of my camper for the remainder of that night.

Searching for the mysterious Echo Rock

I awoke the next morning to beautiful sunshine, a warm summers day. The first thought on my mind was to search for the mysterious Echo Rock. Maybe there will be an experience waiting for me, if I follow my intuition? I began walking along the forest road and it wasn’t long before I came upon a trailhead sign pointing the way. Echo rock was only a short distance along a forest trail which follows the shoreline of mirror Lake.

I walked along the path taking in the sights and sounds of this scenic trail. Ahead, the land rises in a high mound with trees along its peak. I took the lower trail which took me along the waters edge, and ancient sandstone formation to my right. Here it was, rising from the forest floor, I had found Echo Rock.

The Rock’s surface was unusual, the elements have sculpted its façade over the eons. I contemplated all the earth changes that this rock has witnessed. I noticed names and inscriptions carved into the stone of the many visitors who have gravitated here. Some of the carvings date back well over a century. I felt my way a long its walls, wanting so much to learn from its wisdom. As I searched over the stone for anything that would provide me with some kind of profound knowledge, but there was only silence. I felt disappointment, as I began thinking that my intuition was wrong. Maybe there was nothing here for me to discover?

I made my way around Echo Rock until I finally had come full circle

Echo Rock I made my way around Echo Rock until I finally had come full circle. There I noticed a slight trail leading up to the mounds summit. Drawn to it and I began making my way along the gently rising path. The area above felt playful, happy and in every way an enchanted forest.

I closed my eyes and began to hear the whisper of Spirits Area above Echo Rock, at Mirror Lake Once I arrive at the very top, I turned to face all the directions, admiring the beautiful scenery and views of Mirror Lake. I gazed up at the forest’s canopy and the earth seemed to spin a bit. A slight dizziness came over me, and I felt compelled to place the small of my back firmly against one of the trees. Feeling ungrounded, I began to take some deep meditative breaths. I closed my eyes and began to hear the whisper of Spirits all around me. Confused, I opened my eyes to scan the area and could see that I was completely alone. I settled back into the tree, and it was then that I experienced a wave of messages.

It began as whispers, that were nearby and yet all around me

It began as whispers, that were nearby and yet all around me. I heard many different male and female voices. At times one voice would complete another’s sentence, just as twins often do. In other moments the voices all spoke in unison. Theses spirits have a collective consciousness and were speaking as One.

Their first message was to reassure me that I was never alone. No matter the situation, they are always present, and always supporting me. I was overcome with emotion, and my heart expanded. This was a direct response to my desperate prayers on the previous day, when I had felt so alone! I am loved unconditionally by the spirits and my life matters to them. I would define their voices as belonging to a Collective Council of Divine Spirits who are the Creators of our Natural world.

Humanity is unaware of Earth’s true constructs

The subject shifted as they began to share information and concepts that I found difficult to understand. Their first revelation was that the Natural world is essentially a three dimensional Hologram. All life on Earth has been intelligently designed. The evidence is not only found within an organism’s DNA but also in the fact that this blueprint actually exists. The literal progression of divine creativity manifested in the physical world, the evidence found within all of Creation. Natural selection, is actually the result of a divine intelligence’s experimentations that lead to manifesting conscious selections. Variations within species are sometimes a product of aesthetics, beauty and preferences not solely based on functionality.

The holographic program provides humanity with limitless information and continual guidance. Within the natural world, animals serve an integral roles within this wonderous design and functionality of this holographic ecosystem. Furthermore, animals will respond to us in a positive way and recognize our true divinity, once we are fully conscious. The divine council’s preferred method of communications with humanity is through the Natural World. This has enlightened me as to why Nature has always served as man’s earliest and foremost teacher.

A war is being waged over humanity’s future

The physical world was created with such perfection that humanity is unaware of Earth’s true construct. The hologram is like a dream world that we are unable to recognize. In essence our world is similar to the Matrix theory, but never with the intention of keeping humanity under its control. However the potential for abuses and subversions are real and present. The divine creators did not intend for such interference but antagonistic forces have permeated the hologram’s construct.

The Divine beings are engaged in a war that is being waged over humanity’s future. A war that is consequently coming to a conclusion, perhaps even within our lifetime. A message followed that some human beings are not what they appear to be. The explanation is, while human beings are all the same species, aside from certain genetic manipulations, we vary in our soul origins. The souls or spirits of humans come from a multitude of star nations and dimensions. All these energies have assembled here on Mother Earth for a multitude of Divine purposes.

The outcome of this Global conflict is of Critical Importance

There are human beings who are influenced and manipulated by antagonistic energies. The intentions of these forces or energies, are to subvert humanity for their own interests. Since Nature is central to divine communications, adversaries seek to destroy as much of the natural world as possible. The greater purpose is to diminish the influence of the collective council of Divine beings. The Antagonist energies are responsible for many of humanity’s imbalances and the ongoing assault waged upon our Mother Earth.

I accept that there is a higher purpose for this war, because I trust in the divine Collective beings. Admittedly though, I don’t understand the complexities or why it’s necessary for this to play out. The conflict over our world has occurred on other planets throughout time. The outcome and higher purpose of this conflict is of great importance to All. I was assured that my contributions, along with those of countless fellow Human Star Seeds, matters greatly. The Collective Council of Divine Beings Love humanity unconditionally, as we are integral to their creation design and plan. They are working continuously to assist us. Consequently, for reasons I don’t fully understand, our destinies are mutually interconnected with our divine Creators.

A Collective Council for Mankind

Envision with me, a society that builds consensus, operates from Love, respects Natural Law and holds the Natural world sacred. Its been several years now since this life changing experience occurred at Echo Rock on Mirror Lake. I am very grateful for the love and profound messages that the Divine Beings bestowed on me. As a result, my views on religion and the constructs of our society are forever changed. My understanding of our Creator or (GOD), has diverged from the popular monotheistic views. I now recognize a Collective Council of Divine Creators, who speak as One.

In reflecting upon this single distinction, I ponder the countless profound implications of this view.  Consequently, could this knowledge eventually free humanity from the monotheistic, patriarchal paradigms and systems that have imprisoned us all? Can we raise our collective consciousness in this pivotal period, and in time to avoid our current global trajectory of destruction?

Imagine our world breaking free from all the controls and limitations of existing World governments.  These systems of control abandoned for individual enlightenment and a shared Collective Consciousness. A conscious evolution of humanity, striving for a tangible relationship with our Creators. A relationship based on active listening, respect, Cocreation, gratitude and Love. We are at a pivotal time in our evolution, which will determine our future survival. We have the opportunity to Mirror our Creators, adopting the wisdom of the Collective Council of Divine Creators. We have the potential to evolve into a society that builds consensus, operates from Love, respects Natural Law and holds the Natural world sacred.  Ah-Ho

The Council Fire Project

The Council Fire Project

A Call to Mother Earth’s Wisdom Keepers

The Council Fire Project represents a reimagined model of collective conversations and decision making. It provides humanity with a blueprint for governance and decision making that is based upon the ancient Circle model. Within the Circle, we are all equal, and therefore we seek to build consensus rather than majority rule. The Council Fire establishes a new Constitutional Law, of which Natural Law and Egalitarian ideals are central. The Council fire Project draws upon the wisdom of the Iroquois Great Law of Peace.

The Council Fire calls for Mother Earth’s wisdom keepers to come together, to communicate and spring forth from the shadows. It is beyond time for us to take our rightful place around the sacred fire, to step into our roles as Leaders. It is time that our collective voices are heard globally, that we come together to form a powerful organization. Its time for those of us who are drawn to ancient indigenous wisdom and knowledge, to revolutionize our world.

We are at a time of immense transition, which presents humanity with great opportunities, but also brings with it great peril. We find ourselves in a pivotal period of time, where humanity’s next stage of evolution will be decided. This stage of evolution coincides with what is being described as a great global Awakening , bringing forth a transcendental shift in our collective consciousness.

We must transcend our limiting beliefs and social constructs, we must evolve to realize our true potential. Our very survival depends upon our recognition of the role we are playing in the destruction of our Mother Earth and the  life that she sustains. We must rediscover those ancient egalitarian practices, and come back into balance with the natural world, of which we are inseparable.

In nature, all species play an instinctual role in maintaining balance and contributing to the ongoing cycle of life here on Mother Earth. Human beings are the only species that are born lacking the innate knowledge of who we are and where we fit into the circle of life. The Lakota express our connection to the Natural World with the phrase- “Mitakuye Oyasin” meaning that we are all related, all are my relations. It is also a prayer which extends to all people, all forms of life, all that comprises Mother Earth and beyond.

What is the next phase of Human Evolution?

Well that depends upon all of us, as it’s a choice that we must decide upon collectively. Will we choose a path that is in balance with our natural world? A path that is of sustainability, that is based on Indigenous Egalitarian beliefs. These beliefs are not only that all people are created equal, deserving equal rights and opportunities, but also extends to all life upon Mother Earth. The Ancient Egalitarian societies, acknowledges that all life is sacred.  A sacred rule that humans may draw from the natural world only what is actually needed for us to survive, and nothing more. The Indigenous Peoples also revered Natural Law, which is that a creator source supersedes the Law of Men. That all people are Sovereign individuals, that we have a Natural right to life and freedom to make our own decisions.

There are many who are working to define what our next phase of human evolution may look like. Of these voices, I share;

Author Dr. Alberto Villoldo speaks to this next phase of human evolution, referring to it as becoming Homo Luminous.

Setting the Stage for the Sages and Wisdom Keepers

Collectively, humanity has the following choice, evolve as a species, or become extinct as one. This is the precipice we stand upon. Unlike previous species on our planet who have gone extinct either through natural selection, a cataclysmic event or because of human activity. We as human beings are now conscious of the impact we have upon the natural world, and for an unknown period of time, still hold the power to change the course of our Destiny.

How do we make this transition from where we are now, to where and whom we wish to collectively be? I believe answers await us in conversations yet to be held around the coming Council fires. I will do my part, to build these fires, to set the stage for the sages and wisdom keepers of our time. I cry out to each of you, step out of the shadows, seek out and share with our world sacred knowledge, and timeless wisdom.

Archetypal energies

There our certain archetypal energies that transcend cultures, through out our collective history. These Archetypal energies permeate pop culture in all sorts of surprising ways, and it is even expressed within our music. What does the legendary band Led Zeppelin have in common with the Southwestern Native Americans? In Led Zeppelins song Stairway to Heaven, they reference a Piper. This Piper is an Archetypal energy that has similarities to one found in the folklore of  Native Americans.  I propose that this Archetypal energy transcends all cultures, that it is a universal energy and conscious.   I call upon Kokopelli, the bringer of life, to play your flute for us once again! Will you, answer this call and help show us the way forward?

A Piper, one that will lead humanity back to Reason.

The following video contains petroglyphs, depictions of the flute-playing god Kokopelli. Among Southwestern Native Americans, He is known as the god of fertility, a prankster, healer, and wonderful storyteller. Some of the first petroglyphs of Kokopelli were carved over 3,000 years ago. Legends suggest that the hunch on his back depicts a sack of seeds and the songs he carries. Bringing forth life, abundant crops, vegetation, and rebirth. It is believed that his flute playing symbolized the transition of winter to spring, the time for renewal.

Of legend, it’s said that Kokopelli’s flute could be heard in the spring’s breeze while bringing back warmth to the land. It is also believed that he was the source of human conception, a bringer of fertility in every sense. I introduce Kokopelli to you as a source of divine renewal, music-making, of dancing, celebration, and the bringer of joy to all he encounters. I ask Kokopelli to play his flute once again for us, to let his songs be heard in the wind, leading us back to our ancient roots of living in balance with the natural world. I can think of no better symbol or representation of a Piper, one that will lead humanity back to Reason.  (Will you join us? Contact me if you wish to answer this call.)

THE PIPER WILL LEAD US TO REASON

In a tree by the brook
There’s a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.

Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it makes me wonder.

There’s a feeling I get
When I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.

In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who standing looking.

Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it really makes me wonder.

And it’s whispered that soon, If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.

And a new day will dawn , For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter. ~ Led Zepplin

Why We Aren’t Here to Learn: Challenging the Earth School Perspective

Why We Aren’t Here to Learn: Challenging the Earth School Perspective

We often hear that our purpose on this earth is to learn about ourselves through a series of spiritual tests and lessons. But what if this isn’t right? What if we are here for something much more meaningful? In this episode, we will challenge the earth school perspective and explore why this is limiting our potential for a better world.

In This Episode:

  • The Divine Spectacle:
    • We explore what is the Earth School perspective?
    • Three ways this perspective limits our potential.
    • Introduce the idea that we are evolving rather than learning and why this matters.
    • That we are part of an emergent universe that is growing and expanding. Learning is a by-product of this rather than a causal factor.
  • The Sacred Mind:
    • What is emergence?
    • How is this idea different than learning and why does it matter?
    • Why the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
    • Introduce the idea that the universe is moving from unmanifested consciousness to manifested consciousness.
    • Why being evolutionaries rather than students is more powerful for dealing with existential threats.
  • It’s Worth Your Time:
    • Listen to Daniel Schmachtenberger’s talk at Emergence.
    • He explores the properties of emergence as a result of synergy and synergy as a result of relationships, and relationships as a result of attractive forces. Those attractive forces are differing expressions of consciousness.
    • He talks about us becoming conscious agents for the Whole through our abstractive capabilities and participating in conscious evolution.
